Adults’ Holidays

adults' holidays

Majorca
We have special arrangements with the splendid Hotel Hawaii in Palma Nova and the Clinica Femenia in Palma and transport can be organised via the clinic to take patients to and from their hotel for dialysis treatment.

Crete
Dialysis facilities are available at the Mesogeios Dialysis Centre, Gazi, Herakleion, together with an accommodation package and the clinic also supply transport to and from the patient’s hotel for their dialysis treatment.

Financial Help
Grants can be applied for via the patient’s renal social worker for help towards the cost of holidays and free holidays for patients and their spouse/partner can be offered for those patients in greater need on the recommendation of their renal social worker.

Although with the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) dialysis treatment in the European Union and also Australia is without charge, for holiday dialysis facilities outside these countries a charge will be made, but the BKPA is not able to help towards these costs.

As we are not able to make grants for more than £100 direct to the patient or parent, all holiday grants are made payable to the travel company and sent to them direct, so it is important that the address of the agent is included on all grant applications, together with the dates of the holiday and the resort. We are not able to process holiday applications more than three months in advance and it is crucial that holiday insurance is taken out in case of cancellation.

Children’s Holidays

Group holidays are arranged for young kidney patients at the following centres:

Fairthorne Manor YMCA, Curdridge, Nr Southampton, Hampshire
Lakeside YMCA, Lake Windermere, Cumbria
UK Sailing Academy on the Isle of Wight

The young patients’ renal units submit to us the names of children between the ages of ten to sixteen who they feel would benefit from this type of holiday and we then contact the parents with an invitation to their child and information about the holiday. All costs are covered by the BKPA and the duration of the holiday is five days. These holidays are for patients only.
