Holidays
Every year the BKPA funds much needed short breaks and holidays for over 350 couples, children and families affected by kidney disease.
Holidays for adults
Adults hoping for a holiday away from the monotony of treatment, who cannot afford the cost, can apply to us for a grant towards the cost of a modest family break in the UK or overseas.
The grant can be put towards the cost of a personally organised holiday or used for a holiday that is planned via a specialist travel company such as Freedom Holidays.
The BKPA no longer organises the flights and accommodation for patients - instead we allow everyone to make their own arrangements. The centres that we have linked with in the past in Majorca (Clinica Femenia in Palma) and in Crete (Mesogeios Dialysis Centre) do still offer special arrangements for dialysis and can be contacted directly.
Holidays for children
We fund holidays and short breaks for children and their families. And, we fund activity holidays for groups of children from children's kidney units. These breaks are very popular and we visit the following centres:
- UK Sailing Academy on the Isle of Wight
- Fairthorne Manor YMCA, Hampshire
- Lakeside YMCA, Cumbria
- Manor Adventure, Shropshire
The activity holidays are organised by members of the kidney care team in the children's kidney units and staff apply to us on behalf of the group of children.
How to apply for a holiday grant
Any individuals and families wanting to apply for a holiday grant will need to complete a grant application form with their social worker or a member of their kidney care team. Click here to download a copy of our grant application form.
It is useful to remember that the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) covers the cost of dialysis treatment in the European Union, but for all other countries a charge will be made for dialysis and unfortunately the BKPA cannot help with this cost.
All holiday grants are made payable directly to the travel company, so it is important that the address of the agent is included on all grant applications, together with the dates of the holiday and the resort. No payment is made more than three months in advance of your holiday and it is important that holiday insurance is taken out in case of cancellation.
