HOW TO APPLY FOR A GRANT

Individuals and families wanting to apply for a holiday grant will need to complete a grant application form with their social worker or a member of their kidney care team.  In the absence of a social worker or other appropriate member of staff, the BKPA's Counsellor Jacquie Fraser can be contacted by calling the main BKPA telephone number.

The BKPA funds short breaks and holidays

Adults and families affected by kidney disease and unable to pay the full cost of a holiday can apply to the BKPA for a grant. Every year we fund over 350 short breaks and holidays for kidney patients.

The grant can be put towards the cost of a holiday in the UK or overseas, arranged through a travel agent or through a specialist travel company such as Freedom Holidays which also organises dialysis.

PLEASE REMEMBER
  • Only one holiday grant may be awarded in any two year period
  • The European Health Insurance Card (EHIC) covers the cost of dialysis treatment in the European Union, but for all other countries a charge will be made for dialysis and unfortunately the BKPA cannot help with this cost.
  • All holiday grants are made payable directly to the travel company, so it’s important that the address of the agent is included on all grant applications, together with the dates of the holiday and the resort.
  • It is important to ascertain that your travel agent is able to accept a cheque from the BKPA
  • No reimbursement can be made for payments already made
  • No payment can be made more than three months in advance of your holiday and it is important that holiday insurance is taken out in case of cancellation.
DON'T FORGET
  • It is essential to organise holiday insurance.
  • Make sure you plan your dialysis according to your UK schedule.
